Report: Chrome OS Web Traffic Share Up 700% Since Last June, Still Just Accounts For 0.07%

chromebooks_logoAccording to a new report from ad network Chitika, Chrome OS usage continues to increase, but it still trails the PlayStation and the various flavors of Linux that the company sees on its network. Since last June, Chrome OS’s share of traffic on Chitika’s network increased by 700 percent. Even so, Chromebooks still just account for 0.07 percent of desktop- and laptop-based traffic to sites in the company’s network. That puts it ahead of the Wii at 0.02 percent and behind the PlayStation with 0.08 percent, but those consoles were obviously never meant to be web-centric devices to begin with. Last June, Chrome OS accounted for 0.011 percent of traffic across Chitika’s network. As usual, there are a few caveats when it comes to taking Chitika’s data at face value, but the overall trend the company cites seems about right. On TechCrunch, the number of readers who use Chrome OS has tripled since last June according to our Google Analytics stats. Chromebooks currently account for about 0.18 percent of all unique visits, so we can’t quite confirm the same 700 percent increase, but our site is obviously not representative of the web as a whole. Given its high price, Google’s new Chromebook Pixel isn’t likely to make a dent in these numbers anytime soon, but Google is obviously highly committed to this project and as we see more low-priced Chromebooks hit the market (and schools and enterprises), chances are these numbers will continue to creep up in the coming month. Despite positive sales numbers from companies like Acer and new entrants in the Chromebook market like Lenovo and HP, however, Chrome OS will likely remain a niche product for the time being.

An Easy Guide To Understanding Web Hosting | Content for Reprint

Many people who start a website never think about where their data is stored. This is the point where knowledge about web hosting will help. A lot of people starting out should know what designs they can have and what options they have. This article has many tips for new site owners on choosing a good web host.

Your web host should play a key role in your site management, by offering you tools that allow you to track and analyze site statistics like traffic. Independently add a traffic counter somewhere on your website, then compare its results to those that are provided by your host. To maximize the effectiveness of your web site, this information can help you tailor your marketing approaches.

Always keep in mind the frequency that outages occur with a company prior to selecting one. Never accept any excuses that a company may give you for them. There are companies that will defer electrical outages, or give you a million reasons for their poor pop up time, though if you have a really good company, they will do whatever it takes to keep your website up and running. No matter what you are paying for the service, or if they happen to be highly recommended, do not stand for their excuses.

Find a web host that is very effective when it comes to communication. A company who stays connected to its customers is one you will need, and one who informs you of issues, maintenance times or new features. It is also important to have easy contact and to receive a quick response in case you have any problems.

Ensure that you're reading reviews on the web hosts you're considering prior to selecting one. You'll find reviews which mention horribly bad service and exceptionally good service, although rarely any in between. Once you've read all the reviews you can find, you can make an informed decision and go with a well-respected company.

Avoid falling for scams and hidden costs. Many hosts will show low prices on their plan advertisements, but they never tell you about the fees you'll have tacked on top of that price. That is why it is imperative that you learn is included in any hosting plan you are considering. You should also consider the features you are likely to use. Do your best to pick a plan that only covers exactly what you need to have in order to ensure a fair price.

The company you choose must be one that will accommodate your future needs. One page of HTML doesn't require much space, but as you make your site more complex by adding images and video, your space requirement will grow rapidly. Having access to 100MB of storage space should give you enough room to develop your site.

It is useful to get a glimpse of the control panel and navigational design of your hosting provider. A web host that is worth it, should give you directions on walking you through setting up your site. Don't sign up with a service if the control panel seems too hard for you to learn. Find another service that has simpler controls.

Avoid hosting your website with a dial-up connection. This is too outdated for the modern Internet. To keep your website stable and current, back it by a reliable and constant connection source. Otherwise, downtime and lags will hinder your site and may even bring it offline.

Your web host should be the recipient of plenty of hosting awards. You can utilize this information to gauge service. Most of these awards are achieved through the legitimate process of site visitors voting, and they are a good indication that the hosting company is a good one with which to work. Hosts with a number of awards voted for by customers are the ones you should go with.

A superior web hosting service may allow you to cancel at will. Reputable companies will often give you the option to end your contract early and will refund your money for unused services. No web host should make you feel like you are trapped.

Make sure the web host you choose offers support for every programming language used by your website, as well as any you may end up using in the future. It will be a hard task to start up your website, if you are trying to run it using a language that your hosting company doesn't support. In addition, if you decide to use a programming language in the future that is not supported, it is very likely that your web host will not be able to accommodate. Changing hosts can be a bothersome task.

Remember that you often get what you pay for with free hosting sites. Most free hosts require your site to carry ads. You will have absolutely no say in what sort of advertising appears on your website. Advertising for a variety of products on your site, will make it appear untrustworthy and unprofessional.

Plan on paying for a high quality web-host. Although free web hosts are useful for some, a business website hosted on these servers may be viewed as unprofessional. Many of the free web hosting providers will place ads on your website which you may not have control of. Ads which place themselves all over your site will annoy your visitors and drive traffic away.

Know your web host's maintenance schedule. The best situation is when the routine maintenance is only scheduled once a month. If you choose the web host this will put a limit on any down time you will have on your business.

It is vital that the hosting service you choose has all of the services and features that you need and want for your website. SSL certificates, software compatibility and email filtering are all useful applications that should be included in any basic service package.

This article has hopefully shown you that there's more to setting up your website than choosing the domain name. You have to find a service to host it. The more you know about the features and benefits of different web hosting options, the easier it will be to operate your website efficiently. Use the advice from this article to quickly get your site running.

Future uncertain for deadly Florida sinkhole site

SEFFNER, Fla. (AP) ? A backhoe chipped away Monday at the remains of a house where a sinkhole opened up and swallowed a man, but there was little certainty as to what would come next for the site of the freak geological incident.

Though thousands of sinkholes erupt in Florida each year, most are small, few affect homes, and even fewer cause deaths. The sinkhole in the Tampa suburb of Seffner, however, was different.

Crews still were working to remove enough of the home to see more clearly inside the hole and determine what steps would come after the property is razed. There has been no definitive word as to whether the hole will be filled or whether the property could be built on again. But some experts say the fact that the sinkhole claimed a life ? that of Jeff Bush, 37 ? and that his body is expected to remain below the surface make rebuilding less likely.

"It's kind of a bad omen," said Dave Arnold, a hydrogeologist who has surveyed sinkholes for the Southwest Florida Water Management District. "This is an even worse omen with someone buried under there."

Arnold and other experts expect that once the house if destroyed, crews will work to fill in the hole and the lot will likely remain empty. Depending on the circumstances, past Florida sinkholes have been handled in varied ways.

In Maitland, Fla., a sinkhole 325 feet across was discovered in the 1960s as Interstate 4 was built. The highway was diverted around the area, but in 2008 workers began a $9 million project to fill and stabilize the sinkhole in preparation for a planned expansion of the roadway. Engineers say a road can be put over it now without any problems.

In Winter Park, Fla., a sinkhole in 1981 swallowed several sports cars, parts of two businesses, the deep end of an Olympic-size swimming pool and a three-bedroom house. It stretched about 350 feet across and caused $2 million in damages. The area became a temporary tourist attraction, but most of it was ultimately deserted, filled with water and became a lake.

And in 2002, a sinkhole about 150 feet across and 60 feet deep swallowed oak trees, sidewalk and park benches near an apartment complex in western Orange County, Fla. Two buildings with more than 100 residents were evacuated, but the structures were ultimately saved. Metal sheet piling was placed around the hole to stop the soil from sliding, and it was filled.

Often, homeowners find clues to a pending problem by cracks in the foundation or a shifting floor. When that happens, and a sinkhole threat has been established, crews can pump a thick grout ? a mixture of sand and cement ? into the ground to fill the holes. It is a costly process, though it is typically paid by insurance companies, and can save a home from being destroyed.

"You inject the grout under pressure and attempt to fill all the cavities you can find," said Anthony Randazzo, a former University of Florida geology professor who started the consulting firm Geohazards, which handles about 1,000 cases a year of sinkholes and other settlement issues.

Though the specifics of what will happen to the Seffner property remain unknown, Randazzo said the hole would have to be filled to keep people from falling in it and to remove a potential neighborhood eyesore.

If the family decides to try to sell the property, they would be required to notify prospective buyers of the sinkhole issue.

Currently, various county agencies are at the sinkhole site to supervise, but officials haven't given a tally of the costs or said who is absorbing them.

For now, the focus in Seffner remains on a family mourning a loved one and trying to move on. Two large backhoes scraped and pulled at the house Monday afternoon, with one gently removing possessions including a flag, a jacket, family photographs, a bicycle and a china cabinet. The other machine loaded shattered pieces of furniture and construction material into a huge waste container.

The day's most solemn moment came at 4 p.m., when demolition stopped and workers joined family members for a brief ceremony. The many flowers and notes that had been left in front of the house were loaded into a tractor's bucket, which swung slowly toward the sinkhole and dropped the materials into the hole. There was applause from across the street.

Though the house's demolition was completed Monday, crews had not yet finished removing its foundation. After that is done, likely Tuesday, they planned to survey the hole to better understand its dimensions. Hillsborough County spokesman Willie Puz said workers would then "stabilize the hole," though he remained mum on details of what precisely would be done.

"Every sinkhole is different," he said.

Man-made material pushes the bounds of superconductivity

Monday, March 4, 2013

A multi-university team of researchers has artificially engineered a unique multilayer material that could lead to breakthroughs in both superconductivity research and in real-world applications.

The researchers can tailor the material, which seamlessly alternates between metal and oxide layers, to achieve extraordinary superconducting properties ? in particular, the ability to transport much more electrical current than non-engineered materials.

The team includes experts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Florida State University and the University of Michigan. Led by Chang-Beom Eom, the Harvey D. Spangler Distinguished Professor of materials science and engineering and physics at UW-Madison, the group described its breakthrough March 3, 2013, in the advance online edition of the journal Nature Materials.

Superconductors, which presently operate only under extremely cold conditions, transport energy very efficiently. With the ability to transport large electrical currents and produce high magnetic fields, they power such existing technologies as magnetic resonance imaging and Maglev trains, among others. They hold great potential for emerging applications in electronic devices, transportation, and power transmission, generation and storage.

Carefully layered superconducting materials are increasingly important in highly sophisticated applications. For example, a superconducting quantum interference device, or SQUID, used to measure subtle magnetic fields in magnetoencephalography scans of the brain, is based on a three-layer material.

However, one challenge in the quest to understand and leverage superconductivity is developing materials that work at room temperature. Currently, even unconventional high-temperature superconductors operate below -369 degrees Fahrenheit.

An unconventional high-temperature superconductor, the researchers' iron-based "pnictide" material is promising in part because its effective operating temperature is higher than that of conventional superconducting materials such as niobium, lead or mercury.

The research team engineered and measured the properties of superlattices of pnictide superconductors. A superlattice is the complex, regularly repeating geometric arrangement of atoms ? its crystal structure ? in layers of two or more materials. Pnictide superconductors include compounds made from any of five elements in the nitrogen family of the periodic table.

The researchers' new material is composed of 24 layers that alternate between the pnictide superconductor and a layer of the oxide strontium titanate. Creating such systems is difficult, especially when the arrangement of atoms, and chemical compatibility, of each material is very different.

Yet, layer after layer, the researchers maintained an atomically sharp interface ? the region where materials meet. Each atom in each layer is precisely placed, spaced and arranged in a regularly repeating crystal structure.

The new material also has improved current-carrying capabilities. As they grew the superlattice, the researchers also added a tiny bit of oxygen to intentionally insert defects every few nanometers in the material. These defects act as pinning centers to immobilize tiny magnetic vortices that, as they grow in strength in large magnetic fields, can limit current flow through the superconductor. "If the vortices move around freely, the energy dissipates, and the superconductor is no longer lossless," says Eom. "We have engineered both vertical and planar pinning centers, because vortices created by magnetic fields can be in many different orientations."

Eom sees possibilities for researchers to expand upon his team's success in engineering man-made superconducting structures. "There's a need to engineer superlattices for understanding fundamental superconductivity, for potential use in high-field and electronic devices, and to achieve extraordinary properties in the system," says Eom. "And, there is indication that interfaces can be a new area of discovery in high-temperature superconductors. This material offers those possibilities."

NATO says its troops shot dead two Afghan boys

KABUL (Reuters) - NATO said on Saturday its forces had accidentally shot dead two Afghan boys, in the latest of a series of reports of civilian deaths at the hands of international troops.

The shooting in the southern province of Uruzgan could further strain the relationship between the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who has demanded U.S. special forces leave another province over allegations of torture.

The two boys were shot dead when they were mistaken for insurgents during an operation in northwest Uruzgan on February 28, ISAF commander, U.S. General Joseph Dunford, said in a statement.

"I offer my personal apology and condolences to the family of the boys who were killed," Dunford said.

"The boys were killed when Coalition forces fired at what they thought were insurgent forces," he said, adding that a team of Afghan and ISAF investigators visited the village on Saturday and met local leaders.

The area, Lowar-e-Dowahom, was often patrolled by international troops, a spokesman for provincial governor Amir Mohammad Akhundzada said.

"They saw two young children who were apparently listening to a radio and they shot them - it is not yet clear why," the spokesman said.

Australian forces deployed in Uruzgan said earlier there had been an "operational incident" in the province's northwest but gave no details except that no soldiers were harmed.

On February 13 a NATO air strike requested by Afghan forces killed 10 people - including five children and four women - in the eastern province of Kunar, prompting Karzai to ban his troops from requesting foreign air strikes.

Two weeks later he halted all special forces operations in the central province of Wardak after a series of allegations involving U.S. special forces soldiers and Afghan men said to be working with them.

(AP) ? The vice president and black leaders commemorating a famous civil rights march on Sunday said efforts to diminish the impact of African-Americans' votes haven't stopped in the years since the 1965 Voting Rights Act added millions to Southern voter rolls.

More than 5,000 people followed Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma's annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee. The event commemorates the "Bloody Sunday" beating of voting rights marchers ? including a young Lewis ? by state troopers as they began a march to Montgomery in March 1965. The 50-mile march prompted Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act that struck down impediments to voting by African-Americans and ended all-white rule in the South.

Biden, the first sitting vice president to participate in the annual re-enactment, said nothing shaped his consciousness more than watching TV footage of the beatings. "We saw in stark relief the rank hatred, discrimination and violence that still existed in large parts of the nation," he said.

Biden said marchers "broke the back of the forces of evil," but that challenges to voting rights continue today with restrictions on early voting and voter registration drives and enactment of voter ID laws where no voter fraud has been shown.

"We will never give up or give in," Lewis told marchers.

Jesse Jackson said Sunday's event had a sense of urgency because the U.S. Supreme Court heard a request Wednesday by a mostly white Alabama county to strike down a key portion of the Voting Rights Act.

"We've had the right to vote 48 years, but they've never stopping trying to diminish the impact of the votes," Jackson said.

Referring to the Voting Rights act, the Rev. Al Sharpton said: "We are not here for a commemoration. We are here for a continuation."

The Supreme Court is weighing Shelby County's challenge to a portion of the law that requires states with a history of racial discrimination, mostly in the Deep South, to get approval from the Justice Department before implementing any changes in election laws. That includes everything from new voting districts to voter ID laws.

Attorneys for Shelby County argued that the pre-clearance requirement is outdated in a state where one-fourth of the Legislature is black. But Jackson predicted the South will return to gerrymandering and more at-large elections if the Supreme Court voids part of the law.

Attorney General Eric Holder, the defendant in Shelby County's suit, told marchers that the South is far different than it was in 1965 but is not yet at the point where the most important part of the voting rights act can be dismissed as unnecessary.

Martin Luther King III, whose father led the march when it resumed after Bloody Sunday, said, "We come here not to just celebrate and observe but to recommit."

One of the NAACP attorneys who argued the case, Debo Adegbile, said when Congress renewed the Voting Rights Act in 2006, it understood that the act makes sure minority inclusion is considered up front.

"It reminds us to think consciously about how we can include all our citizens in democracy. That is as important today as it was in 1965," he said.

Adegbile said the continued need for the law was shown in 2011 when undercover recordings from a bribery investigation at the Alabama Legislature included one white legislator referring to blacks as "aborigines" and other white legislators laughing.

"This was 2011. This was not 1965," he said.

BN Saturday Celebrity Interview: In Her 40s and Proud, Tinsel Star ...

An actress, television producer, presenter, writer, wife and mother, Ireti Doyle is versatile and good at what she does. ?The Tinsel star actress began acting in 1995 with her first role in the popular TV Series, ?Riddles & Hopes?. She has gone on to star in other TV series such as ?Circle of Three? and currently plays the role of Sheila on the MNet hit series ?Tinsel?.
Ireti is also an award winning TV Presenter and Producer who has hosted the fashion TV show ?Oge? for ten years among other presenting jobs such as ?Today on STV?.
?She is married to Patrick Doyle, also an actor and producer and is the proud mother of five children. Now in her mid-40s, Ireti is glowing and says she is comfortable with where she is. She shares intimate details of her career, family, children and experience as a mother in this exclusive interview with BellaNaija?s Adeola Adeyemo.

?
Return to the Big Screen
We?d be seeing you on the big screen soon in ?Lotanna? after a long break from movies. What endeared you to this project and why did you decide to be a part of it?
Simply put, the Producer of the movie, Ifan, refused to take no for an answer. A less resolute individual would probably not have me on his cast but he just refused to take no for an answer.

Tell me about the movie and your role in it?
Lotanna is in a nutshell, a young boy?s coming of age story; how he travels through life, the decisions he makes, and how his parents try to mould and shape his destiny using the best methods they know. My character is the young boy?s mother. It might be the first time I?m being consciously, in looks and carriage, cast as a middle aged woman. I actually look like my mother in the film.

TV & Nollywood
As a talented actress, you haven?t featured in as much movies as most of your fans would love to see you in. Why do you tend to tilt more towards TV series?
My career has been shaped differently from others. It wasn?t something I said I would do in the beginning. I?ve come to a place of understanding that the one who shapes everyone?s destiny shaped my career like that so most of my credits are on TV and stage. But prior to shooting Lotanna, I shot two films last year. I suspect that they might be released simultaneously before the end of the second quarter of the year. Torn is one that I would really like people to look out for because it was produced and directed by another very creative mind. People would get to see me in a different light.

Does it get very demanding, being on the cast of a ?frequently aired Soap like Tinsel??
Oh yes it does get stifling because it takes up a large chunk of my time. For every lead character on Tinsel, we know that our first commitment is to the show. On the flip side of the coin, Tinsel is the biggest Soap in Africa at the moment. You are seen by millions of viewers across the globe five nights a week. Money cannot buy you that kind of platform, so I think the pluses are much more than the minuses.

You?re also a well known TV Presenter. Tell me about some of the shows you?ve presented and how you got into broadcasting?
Broadcasting happened by mistake. I was fortunate to be placed in a position where I could act and learn the rudiments of broadcasting at the same time. I had a job with a small production company and the task fell on me to design a simple television show, which I did, which turned out to be Oge and it lasted for 10 years. I produced as well as presented the show and that was where I honed my skills. From there I got head hunted to present a number of shows beginning with Morning Ride on NTA created by Danladi Bako and then there was Today on STV which I did for two years. That one too happened by mistake. I was to stand in for someone for two weeks and it turned out to be two years.

Are you currently working on any TV shows at the moment?
I present NIMASA This Week, it?s the official public enlightenment programme produced for the Nigerian Maritime Authority and Safety Agency. I am also currently working on a Magazine show produced by MNet in Hausa. It will air on the Hausa channel.

Do you speak Hausa?
Yes I do.

That?s interesting. What do you think about the developments seen in Nollywood at the moment?
There is a new Nollywood, fresh blood, a convergence of new ideas and that is a great thing. There is more competition and if you?re serious about your craft, you can no longer deliver slipshod material. We?ve garnered international acclaim, we?re several chapters in and the journey can only get better. I have nothing but high hopes for the industry.

What else do you do professionally apart from broadcasting and acting?
I am also a public speaker; a large chunk of my income comes from hosting high profile events. And then there is the mother of all tasks, I?m a mother and wife.

Teenage Pregnancy, Marriage & Motherhood
That?s exactly where I was coming to. How do you combine your duties as a mother with the demands of your job effectively?
It?s not easy, every working woman knows that. Sometimes you have to sacrifice and sacrifice comes both ways. Sometimes you have to pass things up, sometimes your family has to come to terms with the fact that they won?t see you for a bit. But the first ingredient for a balanced life is grace. And secondly, I am fortunate to have a fantastic team where each member knows what they are supposed to do and thankfully, they do it well.

Tell me about this team
They are not too many. I have my housekeeper who also doubles as a baby sitter when I need one. I have my Personal Assistant, she?s been with me for years. And I have one or two other people that I can call on short notice. Motherhood is basically being on hand to attend to your child?s needs and I can?t be in two places at the same time but I try and build my career around my family. Fortunately acting is not as rigid as an office job could be. Once in a while you might miss important moments but you just have to balance it out and fortunately I?ve been able to do that well.

What?s it like being the wife of Patrick Doyle? How would you describe your husband?
Actually no big deal really. He is a pretty laid back person. He is not a very demanding person, he is very busy too with his own projects but as an individual, he is very supportive of the things that I do and he contributes towards raising the kids and running the home and all that.Tell me about your children. How many do you have?
We had six but we lost one. One has graduated but the rest are still in school at different levels. Two are in the higher institution, one is in Secondary and the last one is in Primary school.

Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. I read somewhere that you had your first child as a teenager. How old is she now?
I had her when I was 19 and she?s is 26 now. If you see us together you?d think she is my sister.

Looking back at the time you had your first child, what were the challenges you faced as a teenage mother?
Being a teenage mother is no picnic, back then or even now. As a teenager, you have no business being a mother. You should be discovering yourself, finding out who you are and what your dreams are. It?s one that can and should be avoided. Very few other instances can give a young girl a complex than being a teenage mother and it kind of clouds all your decisions from that point on if you?re not fortunate.

For a lot of girls, teenage pregnancies often affect the mother?s future negatively. How were you able to pull through that period in your life and make the best out of it?
I?m fortunate. I?m the living proof of God?s word that everything would work out for your good. Such an incident will give you baggage but the question is ?Can you move away from the baggage? Yes you can?. Avail yourself of God?s grace, forgive yourself, surround yourself with positive minded people who love you and remind you that you?re not damaged, people who won?t judge you or think less of you.

Did the pregnancy cause any setback for you and your dreams at the time?
When all of it was happening, I did not forget my goals. I always knew I wanted to go to school, have a career. So it can?t even be called a setback any more because the fruit of that situation is a very beautiful and unique human being, one I?m very proud of.

Teenagers are more exposed these days and so the rate of teenage pregnancy is even higher. What would you say to teenage girls who have an active sexual life?
It is such an unnecessary journey to make. I try to school young girls that if you must have sex, please have protective sex. Things are even worse now. A teenage pregnancy is the least of your problems. What if you contract HIV/AIDS and you die before you?re 25? What if you contact Chlamydia and you become barren. There are so many practical reasons for you to be careful with your sex life.

Sometimes, it?s very hard to listen to older people?s advice as a teenager because you feel they are just being unnecessarily strict.
There are some things that are completely unnecessary and you would not realize it till you?re much older. So when an older person or your mother is saying curb your excesses, take it in good faith. They know what they are talking about. You can go to the person for advice. Never take that relationship for granted.

In some instances, mothers find it difficult connecting with their teenage daughters and giving them good advice on sex becomes a problem. As someone who has raised five children, what is the best way for mothers to connect with their daughters?
A large part of the reason why the situation went the way it did back then is because of the way my mother handled it. But I?m old enough to realize now that at the time, she was operating from a position of love and she was handling it the best way she knew how to. That I received it negatively is beside the point. We come from different generations, she grew up under completely different circumstances, my outlook on life is different from hers , my education is different. How I have been able to raise my girls so far successfully is by grace. You can?t do anything without it. I talk to my God about the things I hold dear and my children are a big part of that.
I remember vividly my communication with my Mum and how and when it went awry. I know the things my mother said to me that got to me the wrong way so I don?t say them to my daughters. If I?m trying to get a message across to them, it?s completely up to me to deliver that message in such a way that they can receive it. If she is upset and on the defensive, she will not listen to me, she will not take the message and she?s bound to get into trouble. As a parent, I need to get my message across so I have to package my message in such a way that he or she will understand. Don?t be deceived, for the younger generation, that packaging might come wrapped in a cane.

A cane? Now that is another issue causing a debate in the society with more and more people opposing its use. Don?t you see anything wrong in spanking a child?
What rubbish debate? What are they talking about? Even the Bible says it, Spare the rod and spoil the child. I have a policy with my children and they know it: ?If you?re shameless enough to misbehave in public, I am shameless enough to discipline you in the same arena?. So if you know that you have a Mum that can embarrass you, you will arrange yourself. When your child sticks her finger in your eye and tells you to sit down and shut up, then you will know. The truth of the matter is that you are responsible for the way they turn out.

Is it really the parents? fault if a child turns out bad?
Although parenting really never ends especially if you have a wonderful relationship with your child, but you should know that for the first 18 years of life, you?re going to be giving constant instruction. God forbid, if your child turns out to be an armed robber or a bad person, let it not be for lack of trying. Let society be able to say you tried as a parent but the child just didn?t listen. I don?t subscribe to the school of thought that says a child will turn out to be what he will be, that is arrant nonsense! Get into the child?s life and find out what is going on with him or her.

People say being in your 40s is a special time for women. For you, what is special about being in your 40s?
I think the 40s are a really beautiful period in any person?s life, especially women. You?ve evolved, you know what works for you and you?re not afraid to speak your mind. You?ve come to a place of independence. You find that a lot of women really come to their sensuality and sexuality in their 40s. If they never used to wear short dresses, they start to and people think that they might be trying to hold on to their youth. No, that is not it. She probably just finally accepted that she has really hot legs, she probably just came to terms that she has a great body and she should flaunt it. She?s found herself. I?m comfortable because I?ve been blessed. I have a great career, fantastic kids, a supportive husband, a few great friends and for the most part I am content. I?m in a good place.

On a parting note, what do you strive for at this point in your life?
Do I have everything I want? No. Every new day is an opportunity to learn something new. I strive to be the best I can be in any situation I find myself be it a professional, a mother or a wife. To be the best I can be at whatever it is I?m doing at any point in time.
