How accurate is the Zillow Foreclosure Estimate in ... - Zillow Real ...

Hello.? When I searched Zillow using that ZIP, I found 53 'Foreclosure' properties. ?Zillow includes all 'REO/Bank-Owned' homes AND pre-foreclosure short-sales in that list.

I went to the MLS (which is the most up-to-date and accurate information) and searched 85118 for ALL?single-family homes (NO condos/townhomes) that are currently listed as 'Active' (NOT 'Pending' - under contract).

That search returned 121 properties, ranging from $159,000 to $1,899,000.?

Out of those 121 listings, only FOUR are either bank-owned OR short-sales (2 bank-owned and 2 short-sales); none of them are located in Mountainbrook Village.

As you can see, the distressed market in Gold Canyon is virtually gone as homeowner's now have some equity and are beginning to sell.

If you'd like information on any of those 121 properties, simply contact me through my Realtor/Agent profile!

Thanks for the question!

Asteroid the size of a small truck buzzes Earth: NASA

NASA

By Irene Klotz, Reuters

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - An asteroid the size of a small truck zoomed past Earth four times closer than the moon on Saturday, the latest in a parade of visiting celestial objects that has raised awareness of potentially hazardous impacts on the planet.?

NASA said Asteroid 2013 LR6 was discovered about a day before its closest approach to Earth, which occurred at 12:42 a.m. EDT (0442 GMT on Saturday) about 65,000 miles over the Southern Ocean, south of Tasmania, Australia.?

The 30-foot-wide (10-meter-wide) asteroid posed no threat.?

A week ago, the comparatively huge 1.7-mile-wide (2.7-km-wide) asteroid QE2, complete with its own moon in tow, passed 3.6 million miles (5.8 million km) from Earth.?

While on February 15, a small asteroid exploded in the atmosphere over Chelyabinsk, Russia, leaving more than 1,500 people injured by flying glass and debris. That same day, an unrelated asteroid passed just 17,200 miles from Earth, closer than the networks of communication satellites that ring the planet.?

"There is theoretically a collision possible between asteroids and planet Earth," astronomer Gianluca Masi, with the Virtual Telescope project, said during a Google+ webcast that showed live images of the approaching asteroid.?

NASA says it has found about 95 percent of the large asteroids, those with diameters 0.65 miles or larger, with orbits that take them relatively close to Earth.?

An object of that size hit the planet about 65 million years ago in what is now Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, triggering a global climate change that is believed to be responsible for the demise of the dinosaurs and many other forms of life on Earth.?

The U.S. space agency and other research organizations, as well as private companies, are working on tracking smaller objects that fly near Earth.?

Autopsy set for body believed to be Iowa girl

Authorities announced early Saturday, June 8, 2013 that they have recovered a body believed to be Shepard, who was kidnapped by a registered sex offender while walking home from school. (AP Photo/Iowa Department of Public Safety, File)

(AP) ? Authorities planned to conduct an autopsy Saturday on a body found in a river that is believed to be that of a 15-year-old girl who was abducted more than two weeks ago.

Investigators are confident that the body a fisherman found Friday night in the Des Moines River near Boone is that of Kathlynn Shepard, who was abducted in Dayton, about 20 miles north of Boone, on May 20 along with a 12-year-old girl who later escaped and called 911.

The clothes on the body matched what Kathlynn was wearing the day she was taken, and authorities also found zip ties that matched those used to restrain the younger girl who escaped.

Gerard Meyers, assistant director of field operators of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, said the body was concealed by debris when the fisherman found it. It was recovered by Boone County sheriff's deputies.

"We're fairly confident the unfortunate circumstance this evening was the recovery of Kathlynn," Meyers said at a news conference just after midnight in Boone.

Authorities believe Michael Klunder, a registered sex offender who has since killed himself, approached the girls after they got off their school bus and asked whether they wanted to earn money mowing lawns. They say Klunder offered to drive them to ask their parents for permission, but he instead took them several miles away to the hog confinement facility where he worked.

Klunder bound the girls' hands with zip ties in an office there, but when he took Kathlynn to another part of the property, the younger girl managed to slip her ties and flee through the woods, authorities allege. She eventually found some farmers and called 911.

Authorities found Klunder dead hours later at another rural property. They say the 42-year-old hanged himself.

Hundreds of officers and volunteers had searched for Kathlynn, but hopes of finding her alive were dampened when testing confirmed that blood found on Klunder's truck and at the hog building was Kathlynn's.

"We were robbed of some innocence in this whole thing," said Webster County Sheriff James Stubbs. "We'll never quite be the same. Hopefully time will heal some of those wounds, but the awareness is a lot higher than it was before."

Klunder was released from prison in 2011 after serving 20 years for convictions in two separate kidnappings in Iowa that occurred on back-to-back days in December 1991.

In the first, police said he lured a woman on a highway near Mason City out of her vehicle by claiming she was missing a taillight, and then forced her into his car and tried to assault her. In the second, he snatched two 3-year-old toddlers from a Charles City apartment complex, put them in a trunk and left them 50 miles away at a secluded garbage bin, where they were found alive hours later.

Police are also looking into whether Klunder may have been responsible for the kidnapping and slaying of two young cousins who vanished while riding bikes in Evansdale, about 90 miles from Dayton. The bodies of the girls, who were 10 and 8 years old when they vanished, were found in December in a wooded area in Bremer County, where Klunder once lived in a home for emotionally troubled youth.

The cousins were from Black Hawk County, where sheriff's office investigators are still tracking the actions and whereabouts of Klunder around the time that Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins went missing.

Authorities note that Klunder isn't their sole focus and they continue to follow up on other leads.

May jobs report shows moving in right direction: Krueger

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The economy is headed in the right direction but more needs to be done to speed up the recovery and put more people back to work, a top White House economic adviser said on Friday.

"There is a lot more of work to be done, given how many jobs were lost during the Great Recession," Alan Krueger, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers told CNBC television.

Employers added 175,000 jobs to their payrolls in May, up from a gain of 149,000 in April, the Labor Department said on Friday. The unemployment rate rose a tenth of a percentage point to 7.6 percent as more people entered the labor force.

Is it jail time for genocide deniers in Cambodia?

Prime Minister Hun Sen's new law criminalizing denial of the Khmer Rogue genocide is a barely disguised political move, not a gesture of goodwill, say analysts.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen today pushed through legislation that makes it illegal to deny the Khmer Rouge genocide, but his critics say it has little to do with promoting atonement for his country's tragic past.

Passed unanimously in a special session of the country?s National Assembly, the new law mandates a jail term of up to two years and fines of $1,000 for anyone convicted of denying the 1975-1979 genocide, during which Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge slaughtered some 1.7 million people.

Though formally said to be a gesture of support for the ongoing trials of leading Khmer Rogue leaders, analysts say the law is far more about political advantage for Hun Sen, a former Khmer Rouge official who has been the unchallenged leader of Cambodia since 1998.

The new law comes quickly on the heels of controversial comments allegedly made by Kem Sokha, president of the main opposition party.?In May the government released an audio clip purportedly of the president of the Cambodia National Rescue Party saying that Vietnamese soldiers who reported the aftermath of an an infamous atrocity at a Khmer Rouge prison had imagined what they saw, according to The Phnom Pehn Post.?

Kem Sokha said?that the audio clip?was edited to take his words out of context, according to?The Phnom Penh Post. But the mere suggestion that Kem Sokha denied the atrocities could taint his image.?Nearly 20,000 people were tortured and murdered at the Khmer Rogue?s S-21 prison in Phnom Penh during a four-year long nightmare for Cambodia that has not faded from the national consciousness.?

Opposition party members note that they had for years been pressing for such a law, but also point out that the prime minister had only made moves toward such a law when politically convenient, according to a separate Post?article. The opposition objects to the fact that the law was passed with no debate, arguing that a law that has the potential to be abused should be thoughtfully drafted and subjected to careful scrutiny.

"It is a shame that the law should be passed in a rushed way in response to political comments," wrote Phuong Pham, a researcher at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, where she is studying the Cambodian public's attitude toward the Khmer Rogue trials, in an e-mail. "Kem Sokha, the opposition leader, is not a genocide denier, and any charges would be clearly politically motivated."

No opposition party members were present at the session that unanimously approved the bill on Friday morning. The prime minister's ruling party elected to remove all 27 members from their posts on Wednesday, amid election controversy. The ruling party was upset that?two different opposition parties had merged to challenge it in July's elections.

On Thursday, the opposition parties sent a letter to the National Assembly president asking that the vote on the law be postponed. The letter also proposed a tongue-in-cheek amendment to the law banning former leading members of the Khmer Rouge from holding public office. That would include the prime minister, Hun Sen, as well as several other leading members of his government. Hun Sen belonged to the Khmer Rogue before defecting to Vietnam and later rolling back into Cambodia, eventually claiming the post of prime minister.?

A member of the unofficial "10,000 Days in Office" dictator?s club, Hun Sen has profited enormously from the genocide more than three decades ago, cobbling together a dubious narrative in which he rescued the troubled country from Pol Pot?s agrarian "Year Zero" and crafted it into a emergent economic center in Southeast Asia. Last month, he told reporters that Cambodia would have been ?a coconut plantation? without his leadership, according to The Cambodia Daily.

Trials for 2 out of 4 Khmer Rogue leaders ? the first and only Khmer Rogue leaders to be tried for the genocide ? are currently ongoing in Cambodia, reported The Christian Science Monitor, racing against the failing health of the aging defendants. One defendant died in prison of heart failure in February. The only defendant to have been sentenced so far, Kaing Guek Eav, the former head of the S-21 prison, was transported to a prison in Cambodia?s Kandal Provincial Prison yesterday, where he will serve a life sentence, The Cambodia Daily reported.

Man indicted in taking Cleveland women

On Friday night, Henry Kissinger, Timothy Geithner, Amazon's Jeff Bezos, and U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron will meet at a luxury hotel in Watford, England, along with a total of 140 delegates from 21 countries. For three days, they will discuss the major problems facing the world. This is the Bilderberg Group meeting, but it is easy to mistake it as some vast?nouveau-Freemason conspiracy. But it is likely far less ominous and far more boring than it sounds.
